    History[edit | edit source]

Vindobona was founded in the 1st century on the territory of the Draft:Roman Empire. In the 3rd century, Vindobona began to flourish, the Roman fleet appeared here, but in the 4th century it was destroyed by Germanic tribes and the Romans left these places.

Vindobona was renamed Vienna and became a city in 881. In 1156, Vienna became the capital of the Duchy of Austria.

In the 21st century, Vienna has become one of the most important trading cities. In 1485, as a result of the Austro-Hungarian War, Vienna was captured by Hungary. From September 27 to October 14, 1529, Vienna was besieged by the Ottoman Empire.

In mid-June 1683, the Ottoman Empire laid siege to Vienna again. The siege lasted 2 months and was lifted after the Battle of Vienna, ending in victory for the troops of the Holy Roman Empire in alliance with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, Vienna became a center of theater and opera, at which time many theaters were founded and built, such as the Burgtheater, Auf der Wieden, the theater in Josefstadt, and the Kärntnertortheater.

In 1804, Vienna became the capital of the newly formed state - the Austrian Empire.

During the Napoleonic Wars, Vienna was captured by French troops twice: in 1805 and 1809. In 1814-1815, the Congress of Vienna was held in Vienna, at which the results of the Napoleonic Wars were revised and thanks to which the Holy Alliance was created.

In October 1848, the Hungarian uprising took place in Vienna, the last of the uprisings of the Hungarian revolution, but it was not successful and was suppressed. In 1867, Vienna became the capital of Austria-Hungary along with Budapest. In World War I, Vienna was not directly threatened, but there were problems with the supply of food to Vienna, causing many residents to suffer from hunger.

In 1939, Vienna became part of Third Reich as a result of the Anschluis, and was liberated by the Allies only in 1945. For the next 10 years, Vienna, like all of Austria, was divided into 4 occupation zones. In 1950, communist demonstrations took place in Vienna, reaching the proportions of a coup d'etat, but were suppressed.
